Former Liverpool midfielder Joe Allen spoiled Manchester United's day as they were held to a 1-1 draw by Stoke City at Old Trafford.

Mark Hughes' struggling Potters, without a win this season in the Premier League, frustrated the Red Devils, missed the chance to make ground on rivals and league leaders Manchester City.

Substitute Anthony Martial opened the scoring before Welsh midfielder Allen, who moved from Merseyside in the summer, drew the visitors level with seven minutes left on the clock.

The home side were far too wasteful and they failed to take their chances.
