Luis Enrique ‘frustrated’ by Chelsea owner Todd Boehly’s decision to hire Frank Lampard as caretaker

Luis Enrique was ready to take over at Chelsea this month and has reportedly been left disappointed by Todd Boehly’s decision to appoint Frank Lampard until the end of the season.
The Blues sacked Graham Potter at the start of April amid a disastrous run of form, despite hundreds of millions being spent in the transfer market.
Former Spain and Barcelona boss Enrique immediately emerged as a top contender, along with ex-Bayern Munich manager Julian Nagelsmann.
While talks started happening over a replacement, owner Boehly made the shock decision to install a caretaker manager until the end of the season.
That was club legend Frank Lampard, who had been sacked as the club’s manager back in 2021.
Lampard himself was axed by Everton in January with them plummeting towards relegation.
Now he has been drafted in to try and salvage their season, but it has not gone well.
Three defeats in a row from his opening three games has left them in the bottom half of the Premier League, just six points above Bournemouth, and on the cusp of a Champions League exit.
Lampard’s appointment suggested that there were not any candidates willing to take the job until the end of the season.
However, Spanish publication claim Enrique was willing to take the role straight away and was keen to take charge for their Champions League clash with Real Madrid.
He held talks with Boehly and co over video before then travelling to London for face to face talks.
Despite these conversations, Lampard was installed as caretaker and Enrique was said to have been frustrated by the decision.
