How Tottenham ended up with Nuno Espirito Santo instead of Manchester United boss Erik ten Hag

Tottenham are searching for yet another permanent manager, with Antonio Conte the latest to depart the club.
Recent success has remained limited but things could have been very different in 2021 as Spurs dismissed the chance to hire Erik ten Hag.
The Dutchman has proved to be an instant success in his first season at Manchester United.
He led them to their first trophy since 2017 with success in the Carabao Cup, and will manage them in this year's FA Cup final.
Ten Hag is also set to guide them back to the Champions League, and Spurs had the opportunity to bring him to north London not too long ago.
As reported by , they interviewed the then Ajax boss as they searched for Jose Mourinho's permanent successor.
However, Spurs believe he was lacking 'charisma', and felt that his English speaking skills were at an 'adequate' level.
Instead, they opted to appoint Nuno Espirito Santo, who lasted less than four months in the job.
Conte came in as his replacement the following day and spent 16 months at the helm.
However, a series of poor results ultimately led to his departure, which came shortly after his dramatic post-Southampton rant.
His assistant Cristian Stellini stepped in on an interim basis but he too has left his role, with Ryan Mason now in charge.
The former Spurs midfielder will kick-off his second stint as boss against Manchester United on Thursday night, which is live and exclusive on talkSPORT.
Julian Nagelsmann is interested in becoming the club's new permanent manager.
The ex-Bayern Munich boss was also linked with the Chelsea vacancy, but withdrew from the process.
Nagelsmann could very well be the next man to take charge at the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium.
However, Spurs may be regretting their decision to not bring in Ten Hag when they had the chance, with silverware still a distant memory.
