‘Pelters incoming’ – Premier League star Ben Mee posts his PFA Team of The Year but fans point out Liverpool and Manchester United omissions

Brentford defender Ben Mee knew what was coming when he posted his Premier League Team of The Year on Twitter.

But the ex-Burnley star was open to debate about his XI, even backtracking on one of his choices as he enjoyed some back and forths with fans in the replies.

Mee has been a key player with Brentford in their second season in the Premier League, making 37 appearances.

But unlike his performances for the Bees, his TOTY choices haven't gone down quite as well with some football fans, which is unsurprising given the quality in the Premier League this season.

"Just filled in my PFA team of the year, let me know what you think," the Brentford star wrote before he joked: "Pelters incoming."

Starting from the back, Mee picked Newcastle goalkeeper Nick Pope, with Manchester City's Nathan Ake, Arsenal's Gabriel, Brighton's Lewis Dunk and Newcastle's Kieran Trippier in front of him.

In midfield, Mee went for Man City's Kevin De Bruyne and Ilkay Gundogan, and Arsenal's Martin Odegaard.

Leading the line for Mee's side is Gunners star Bukayo Saka, Tottenham's Harry Kane and, unsurprisingly, the Premier League record-breaking goalscorer Erling Haaland.

But, as always with footballing opinions, you can never please everyone - and Mee stuck by most of his decisions when debating with fans.

"Stones for Dunk?" one fan asked, questioning why Premier League winner John Stones wasn't included.

"Dunks just done it the whole season for me," Mee replied, praising the Brighton captain's consistency.

Mee also replied to supporters asking why he didn't include Casemiro or Rodri over Gundogan, with the Man United midfielder having a blinder of a first season for the Red Devils.

However, he still stuck by his guns despite admitting they both could've been in there instead.

Bukayo Saka was a key part of Arsenal's part in the title race this season, scoring 13 goals and providing 11 assists in the Premier League this campaign.

But Liverpool fans quickly reminded Mee that their own winger, Mohamed Salah, had superior stats.

"Salah over Saka. Ahead on every single stat bar passing," the fan said, before Mee replied: "Yeah fair point."

Of course, plenty of Bees players have shone this season with them finishing in the top 10 of the Premier League for the first time in their history.

But when asked why he didn't include any teammates, such as the Premier League's third highest top scorer this season (20), Brentford striker Ivan Toney, he had a simple answer.

"No teammates," he said.
