Arsenal finally got the bragging rights over Manchester City after winning the 2023 Community Shield on penalties.

The Gunners beat Pep Guardiola's treble-winners for the first time since 2020 to claim the first piece of silverware of the new campaign.

Arsenal boss Mikel Arteta saw his side denied a first Premier League title in 19 years last season after being overhauled late on by City.

And Cole Palmer's stunning strike looked to have compounded his misery before Leandro Trossard's 100th minute shot was deflected in by Manuel Akanji.

City then fell apart in the penalty shootout with Kevin de Bruyne smacking the crossbar before Aaron Ramsdale saved from Rodri.

But Arsenal turned home four perfect spot-kicks with Fabio Vieira holding his nerve to deliver the club's 16th Community Shield title.
