Laura Woods jokes she ‘got her comeuppance’ amid new job rumours in chat with Rio Ferdinand

Laura Woods has joked she'll feel like 'the new kid at school' when she joins Rio Ferdinand and co on TNT Sports this season.
There had been speculation the former talkSPORT Breakfast host was set to take on Jake Humphrey's role at the rebranded BT Sport's programme - something she's joked was probably a fair punishment after her years at talkSPORT Towers.
Driving around south London with her new colleague Rio Ferdinand in a video on , Woodsy explained just how she came to be appointed as the outlet's new Champions League host.
And she gave a nod to the years she'd spent discussing football transfers alongside Ally McCoist and co on the Breakfast show, a role that came to an end in June and ultimately led to the speculation.
"It wasn't immediate," she told the Manchester United legend.
"But [talks] did go quickly once it started to move. There were a lot of rumours before I was approached, to be honest. I was like, well, this is my comeuppance!
"All of these times that I woke up on the radio, and go, 'Here's a rumour I'm going to tell three million people about' - and then suddenly the rumour was me! I was like, 'We're not talking about it!' to my producers."
After working her way up at Sky Sports originally, Woods was appointed as talkSPORT Breakfast host in 2020.
DAZN then brought her in for their coverage of the Women's Champions League and Matchroom's boxing events and right now she's leading ITV Sport's coverage of the Women's World Cup.
But despite already having plenty of gigs, Woodsy revealed TNT Sports' focus on the sport's supporters sold her on saying yes to the new role.
She added: "I think the thing that sold me the most was they want to be near the fans, they want to be by the fans.
"And I think for me as a presenter, what I've really enjoyed is that rough and ready presenting. Going to the ground, being amongst the fans - it's different, isn't it? You can't replicate it in a studio."
And whilst Woodsy has admitted that despite her nerves, she's buzzing about her next chapter.
"(I'm) very excited. To start a new project with a new team, having a clean slate is really great place to start," she said. "I'm excited about it, but I feel a bit nervous about it too.
"I feel like I'm the new kid in school, and you guys all know each other, and you've been in lessons for a few years, you sit at the back of the class, and I feel like I'm going to come in and sit at the front of the class... and be the most intelligent one!"
