Reds manager Jurgen Klopp confirmed the club have agreed a deal with Brighton to sign the 21-year-old in a press conference on Friday.

Caicedo's preferred destination has always been Stamford Bridge but the two clubs have so far been unable to settle on a fee.

Reports claim the Ecuador international has told Liverpool he only wants to join Chelsea after agreeing personal terms in May.

The Blues had been negotiating with the Seagulls all summer, seeing multiple bids rejected before Liverpool swooped in with a £111million bid.

Chelsea are yet to make a new bid for Caicedo and it is understood they will now need to match the Reds' offer.

Should he join Liverpool, he will be their third midfield signing after his ex-Brighton co-star Alexis Mac Allister and Dominik Szoboszlai.

A switch to Chelsea would make Caicedo the seventh new arrival at the west London side this summer.

Having lost N'Golo Kante, Mason Mount and Mateo Kovacic, the Blues are in need of new midfielders.

They also hold an interest in Southampton's Romeo Lavia, who has been a long-standing target for Liverpool.

Caicedo appears to have his heart set on Chelsea though as two Premier League giants fight for his signature.

It remains to be seen whereabouts he goes this summer, with a Brighton departure all but certain.

However, the transfer saga between Chelsea and Liverpool has made their clash on Sunday afternoon even more interesting.
