West Ham have confirmed the signing of James Ward-Prowse from Southampton in a £30million deal.

Ward-Prowse becomes the Hammers' second signing of the summer after Edson Alvarez joined from Ajax.

The midfielder featured in the Saints' first Championship game of the season, but was left out of their 4-4 draw with Norwich on Saturday.

He was at the game to say his goodbyes to his teammates as he leaves the club he joined at the age of eight.

Two decades later, the 28-year-old leaves having played 410 games and scored 55 goals.

“I’m buzzing to be here at West Ham United. It’s great to be here and I’m looking forward to getting going,” said Ward-Prowse.

Ward-Prowse will take the number seven shirt at West Ham, while Flynn Downes is expected to join Southampton on loan.

After a slow start to the summer for David Moyes, he is starting to get players through the door.

He now has two midfielders in following the departure of Declan Rice to Arsenal for £105m.

West Ham are now likely to turn their attention to the signing of Manchester United centre-back Harry Maguire.

However, the Hammers have a fight to keep Lucas Paqueta at the London Stadium this summer.
