Liverpool star Suarez facing World Cup heartbreak after injuring knee – reports

Liverpool star Luis Suarez facing World Cup heartbreak after injuring knee during Uruguay training session- reports

Luis Suarez is set to undergo knee surgery which could see him ruled out of the World Cup, according to widespread reports.

The Liverpool striker is understood to have suffered meniscus damage during a training session on Wednesday with the rest of the Uruguay squad.

Suarez, 27, is now expected to undergo an operation on Thursday, placing his participation in this summer's tournament in serious doubt.

The news will concern fans of his club Liverpool, but for England it would be a huge boost should the striker not be fit for the group stage clash with Uruguay on June 19.

The Uruguay Football Federation is expected to make a statement later on Thursday about the fitness of their talisman.

Any surgery would likely sideline the striker, the Professional Footballers' Association and Football Writers' Association Player of the Year after scoring 31 league goals, for at least three to four weeks.
