Charity bet nets £4,700 for Give Food thanks to Lionesses World Cup heartache

Irish Journalist and talkSPORT regular Barry Glendenning chose his charity bet live on the talkSPORT Warm-Up show a few weeks ago.

And with talkSPORT BET selected a treble; on the U21 Euro Championship, Wimbledon and 2023 Women's World Cup. With £25 on three selections, it netted an incredible £4700 for the charity .

Barry needed Carlos Alcaraz to win Wimbledon, fending off the odds-on Novak Djokovic, England to win the U21 Euro Championship and Spain Women to win the 2023 Women's World Cup.

Not many would have sided against the Serbian who was unbeaten on centre court for around a decade.

And it was a tense final that saw the two players battle it out until the final deciding set, which Alcaraz won 6-4 to seal the Grand Slam title.

Spain dominated the ball but England were ruthless with their shots, hitting six on target from just eight attempts.

But they only needed one to better Spain, and that strike came from Liverpool's own Curtis Jones, who netted in additional time of the first half. Making it two winning selections from three, with England vs Spain facing off yet again.

The Lionesses were the only team that stood in the way of the £25 treble, but were out performed somewhat in the Women's World Cup final hosted by Australia and New Zealand.

In what was already a dramatic event, it would have been nervous viewing from those backing the bet in, as England Women came close early on in the first half hitting the bar.

But Spain dealt the first blow after a sublime and assured finish from Olga Carmona in the first half.

The charity bet could have been wrapped up even sooner in the 90 minutes had their penalty been netted by Jennifer Hermoso, but Mary Earps was equal to it.

Spain reversed the scores from the U21 EURO's just a month prior and helped Barry's bet land a huge £4,700 payout for a well deserved charity.
