‘Tongue-in-cheek banter’ – James Maddison opens up on hilarious social media post ribbing Trent Alexander-Arnold

James Maddison admitted that it was just a bit of 'tongue-in-cheek banter' when he teased Trent Alexander-Arnold over the recent VAR calamities.
The two England internationals faced off last month when Tottenham beat Liverpool 2-1 in a match that saw Joel Matip scored a last-gasp own goal.
But there was real controversy when Luis Diaz had a goal chalked off through offside, though it should have stood if not for VAR bungling it up.
It led to calls from Jurgen Klopp to replay the match, sparking a frenzied response from fans and pundits alike.
Forever the cheeky chappy, Tottenham's Maddison could not resist a gentle jibe directed at Liverpool star Alexander-Arnold with the two on England duty together.
Sharing a picture of the two on Instagram, he captioned the post: "Still asking for a replay."
But when asked by talkSPORT's Faye Carruthers about the story behind the post, Maddison insisted he was just having a bit of banter with his good pal.
The 26-year-old told talkSPORT: "Nah, the conversation wasn't anything to do with that. Just having a bit of banter with Trent.
"Trent is a good friend of mine, we get on really well. Tongue-in-cheek banter!
"That game is in the past, we were just having a little mess around."
Tottenham's win over Liverpool last week sparked plenty of furore over VAR, leading to the PGMOL releasing the audio of what happened.
It revealed that a huge moment of miscommunication saw the onfield decision of offside stand when the call from VAR should have overturned it.
Liverpool boss Klopp said that the only fair outcome would be a replay, though he did go on to insist that his comments were taken out of context.
"We are not children or whatever," he said last week. "We just had a few questions to answer and did that and that’s it."
