Kylian Mbappe and Jude Bellingham could be playing for Chelsea and they still wouldn't win the Premier League.

That is the view of talkSPORT host and ex-Blues midfielder Andy Townsend, who has insisted the duo wouldn't turn the club's fortunes around.

Mauricio Pochettino's side have struggled for consistency again this season, with the west Londoners languishing in 11th spot after ten games.

Chelsea have won just three matches and have lost on four occasions - with Brentford running out 2-0 victors at Stamford Bridge on Saturday.

Still, ex-Crystal Palace chairman Simon Jordan has tipped Chelsea to win the top-flight title within the next three years.

It is an opinion not shared by his talkSPORT colleague Townsend, who believes the club can have two of the world's best players in Mbappe and Bellingham and still be nowhere near good enough.

Responding to Jordan's view on the talkSPORT Breakfast show, Townsend said: "That is some statement, I don't see that at all.

"Not unless they sign Mbappe and three of that level. Look, they are acquiring some very good young players.

"There is never any guarantees on young players stepping up and being able to make the difference, never!"

He then posed a question to his co-host Ally McCoist, as he asked: "If Chelsea had Mbappe and Bellingham, in this current team, would they win the league?"

To which the Rangers icon simply stated: "Probably not."

Townsend then remarked: "Of course they wouldn't, no chance!"

Giving his say on Chelsea's current situation, McCoist then said: "I think Chelsea are in the same position as Manchester United.

"In the respect that they're miles off winning the title."

Rounding up his argument, Townsend then insisted: "I've seen Chelsea a fair bit this season.

"I saw them against Arsenal, I thought they played very well and unfortunately didn't win the game, a bit unlucky not to have won that game.

"At the weekend against Brentford, my goodness me, they could still be there now and they wouldn't even have a shot, never mind score."
