Manchester United fans vent at ‘inconsistency’ as Liverpool man Wataru Endo avoids red card a day after Marcus Rashford sent off

Manchester United fans have been left dumbfounded at how Liverpool's Wataru Endo avoided a red card for a similar challenge to Marcus Rashford's sending off.

The latter was shown a straight red card in United's 4-3 Champions League defeat against FC Copenhagen for a foul on Elias Jelert.

Rashford's studs went into the defender's ankle and upon review by VAR he was dismissed, with United going on to lose yet again.

Less than 24 hours later in Liverpool's 3-2 Europa League defeat at Toulouse, Endo did something similar as his studs went into Thijs Dallinga's ankle.

He only received a yellow card but United fans believe he should have been sent off given what happened to Rashford the night before.

As a result, they took to social media to complain with one on X saying: "Isn’t this the same exact thing Rashford was sent off for? Again all we ask for is consistency and nothing else."

"Endo makes the same challenge as Rashford last night and only gets booked. Consistency you have to love it," added another.

A third said: "Rashford protecting the ball = Red Card. Endo actually making a challenge = No Red Card."

"Endo got a yellow card for doing pretty much what Rashford did. Can’t make it up," said a fourth.

Despite each incident having different outcomes, neither side were able to claim mid-week wins on the continent.

United lost their third match in the Champions League this season and now sit bottom of Group A with two games left to play.

In the Europa League, Liverpool saw their unbeaten run come to an end in a match that also saw late controversy in stoppage-time.

Jarell Quansah thought he has scored the Reds' equaliser but VAR adjudged Alexis Mac Allister to have handled the ball earlier on.

The goal was disallowed and Toulouse went on to win, with the result taking them to second in Group E behind the leaders Liverpool.
