The World Cup often sees players cement their name into the history books as one of the greatest to have ever played the beautiful game.

Lionel Messi and Cristiano Ronaldo, we’re told, will only earn legendary status once they have held aloft the trophy like Pele, Bobby Moore, Ronaldo and Diego Maradona.
