How much TV and prize money is on offer in the FA Cup third round? Premier League and Championship sides prepare to enter iconic competition

The FA Cup third round is underway, which presents a lucrative chance for some of England's lower league clubs.

A cup run for teams in the EFL and below is not only fun for fans, players and staff, but it can also prove to be a great way of making money.

The third round sees the Premier League and Championship clubs enter, which means that the prize money goes up as we approach the business end of the competition.

What is the prize money for the FA Cup third round?

For the third round of the FA Cup, there is a grand total prize pot of £3.36million pounds to be split equally between the tie winners.

The losers get nothing and walk away with whatever they've collected from the previous rounds.

However, should any Premier League or Championship side crash out, they take no money.

But for each team that wins, there is a total of £105,000 on offer.

Now, for the top-flight and Championship clubs, this isn't much but to teams down the pyramid, this is a significant chunk of money that is worth fighting for.

This fund can be further boosted by ticket sales because the revenue is split between each side, with both taking 45 per cent.

So Chelsea will make the same amount of money from sales as Preston and Maidstone will take the same as Stevenage and so on.

How much TV money is on offer?

For those fortunate enough to be picked for TV coverage, a total of over £100,000 is up for grabs to each side.

This progressively increases as the FA Cup carries on, but to a lower-league team, that's a huge sum of money and can help these clubs in a big way.

Plus, if there is a replay, the gate receipts for that game are equally divided again, and there is another load of TV money.

For replays, it's less but still comes in at around £50,000.
