Tottenham agree shock deal to sign ex-Chelsea striker Timo Werner after Manchester United interest

Tottenham have reached an agreement to sign Timo Werner on loan from RB Leipzig, talkSPORT understands.
Former Chelsea forward Werner, 27, is set to join Spurs until the end of the season with an option to buy for around £15million.
Manchester United held exploratory talks over a move for Werner but Spurs suddenly jumped ahead of their Premier League rivals on Saturday.
As talks progressed, Werner was left out of the RB Leipzig squad for the friendly against Swiss side St Gallen.
RB Leipzig boss Marco Rose later confirmed Werner will be leaving the club this month.
Rose said: “He wants to go on loan, we wish him all the best.
“He needs to play as he wants to go to Euro 2024 and we keep our fingers crossed for him.”
talkSPORT understands Tottenham will cover Werner's full wages and a medical could take place as soon as Sunday.
Spurs have moved quickly to recruit cover in attack with Heung-min Son away at the Asia Cup and James Maddison still nursing a long-term injury.
Werner first arrived in England from RB Leipzig in 2020 when Chelsea beat Liverpool to secure his hotly-contested signature.
At the time he cost £45million as the Blues paid his release clause.
There was a great amount of hope at Stamford Bridge that Werner would be the man to end Chelsea's infamous run of underwhelming expensive striker signings.
However, he was unable to do so, scoring just 23 goals in 89 games across two seasons with the club.
The Germany international did win the Champions League in this time, but was not seen as a crucial part of the team.
As a result, he returned to RB Leipzig in 2022 for just £25.3million.
Since heading back to the Bundesliga club, he's netted 18 goals in 54 games.
