Timo Werner a ‘stocking-filler’ at Tottenham says Graeme Souness as Simon Jordan slams goal-shy forward

Timo Werner’s move to Tottenham has raised eyebrows at talkSPORT towers.
The former Chelsea forward is set to return to the Premier League, joining Spurs on a six-month loan from Leipzig.
talkSPORT understands the deal has a purchase option in it set at £15million, with Werner not enjoying his return to Germany.
The 27-year-old struggled during his last stint in England, only managing 23 goals in 89 games after moving to Stamford Bridge for £50m.
And when it was put to former Crystal Palace owner Simon Jordan that Werner’s versatility could be of use in north London, he had a brutal response.
“He’s very versatile, he misses goals with his left foot, right foot and his head,” the talkSPORT host quipped.
Spurs may be in need of some depth up front, with their captain and top scorer Heung-min Son away at the Asian Cup.
Liverpool legend Graeme Souness doesn’t see the move working out, but has explained why Werner is still capable of a surprise.
“He needs five opportunities to score a goal, and he had one good season prior to coming here,” the Scot told talkSPORT.
“He found it difficult to get goals and I would say nothing’s changed, he’s gone back to Leipzig and this season played eight games and scored two goals.
“He’s a stocking filler, he’s another body. I don’t think he’ll do very well, but having said that, he’s the kind of player that will get three or four chances every game because he’s rapid and gets himself in the right place.
“He’s a player who one year could get 30 goals, and the next five or six, so he could have the most incredible purple patch and then Spurs will have to sign him.
“[Darwin] Nunez falls into that category where he needs too many chances to score a goal, but that may change as he’s a young man, Werner, I don’t see that changing, but he could have a purple patch.”
