Redknapp confirms QPR are set to sign two defenders

QPR have agreed a fee with Cardiff for Steven Caulker and are set to sign former England captain Rio Ferdinand, according to manager Harry Redknapp.

The Hoops are on the lookout for reinforcements having sealed their return to the Premier League and the Bluebirds centre-back fits the bill.

Redknapp said: "We've agreed a fee with Cardiff and it's now up to Steven to decide his next move.

"I know him well from Spurs and he's always been a tremendous prospect. Hopefully that's one we can get done."

talkSPORT told you last week that Ferdinand had agreed to move to Loftus Road on a free transfer after being released by Manchester United.

And Redknapp - a known admirer of the 35-year-old - confirmed the deal will be completed once the veteran defender returns from his BBC punditry duties at the World Cup.

"Rio has agreed to join us and we're hopeful of getting that one over the line when he gets back from the World Cup," the QPR boss told Telegraph Sport.

"I can't foresee any problems with it and we'd be delighted if we can get it done soon.

"He's been a player at the top of the list since he left Manchester United and he would give the whole place a lift with his quality and experience."
