Kate Abdo indirectly addressed Jamie Carragher's controversial comment in expert fashion following backlash on social media.

After Arsenal's Champions League win over Porto, the Liverpool legend appeared to jokingly question the CBS Sports presenter's loyalty to her partner.

Micah Richards donned a Gunners shirt and handed it over for Carragher to wear, with the latter then stating Abdo should wear it too, but she insisted she was 'loyal to Manchester United.'

However, Carragher then said 'not to Malik' in reference to her partner Malik Scott as an attempted joke that certainly fell short.

"What? Why would you even say that," she replied, with his comment being widely criticised by fans on social media.

However, Abdo took it upon herself to quash any hint of tension between her and Carragher with a light-hearted introduction.

When opening their Wednesday night show, she addressed him, Richards and colleague Thierry Henry as inherited 'brothers'.

Henry was described as the 'golden child' before she moved onto Carragher: "Then there is the middle child.

"Jamie Carragher, a chip on his shoulder, capable of saying anything for attention.

"Does he go too far sometimes? Absolutely. Does he apologise? Yes he does.

"But all of us have that annoying family member that we still love and accept."

All four of them smiled during Abdo's speech, with the air seemingly cleared in the aftermath of the controversy.

Henry appeared to receive the biggest compliments of the lot, with the presenter saying: "The golden child, can do no wrong, always says the right thing, sets the example for the rest of us.

"Can he be intimidating? Yes he can, but he is the big brother that we all look up to and we all aspire to, Thierry."

"And then there's little bro," Abdo said as she moved onto Richards. "Loud but lovable, Micah Richards. Easy to pick on, impossible not to love, and everybody's favourite."

Henry, Carragher and Richards all then applauded, before she added: "Like a good family, we stick together. So here we are, another day, another show. Good to be with you all."

After the Champions League matches finished, they discussed the remaining eight teams left in the competition, and Abdo couldn't resist one last swipe at Carragher.

Carragher suggested Borussia Dortmund were the weak link in the competition and every other team would want to be drawn against them in the quarter-finals, to which Abdo replied: "Says the king of disrespect!"

The quartet are loved by fans for their excellent on-screen chemistry and it appears as though that's set to remain despite Carragher's failed joke.
