Former Premier League manager Ralph Hasenhuttl gets new job after 15 months and could stop Harry Kane title bid

Former Southampton manager Ralph Hasenhuttl has been appointed as the new manager of Wolfsburg.

The Austrian, out of work for 15 months, replaces Niko Kovac in the hotseat at the Volkswagen Arena.

A 3-1 defeat to Augsburg has left the club 14th in the Bundesliga table.

And they are six points ahead of Mainz who currently occupy 16th place.

Whoever finishes in that position will be forced to play for their Bundesliga future in the German division's infamous relegation play-off.

Hasenhuttl could also have a say in the epic title race currently playing out too.

Wolfsburg will face Bayern Munich, who are currently ten points behind Bayer Leverkusen with eight games to play, in their penultimate match of the season.

This would see Hasenhuttl reunited with a familiar foe in Harry Kane, should he be fit and available after picking up an ankle injury.

In appearances against the Austrian's Saints, Kane scored four goals and added four assists over seven games.

And this might see Hasenhuttl out for revenge as he looks to make an impact in Germany.

Hasenhuttl previously stated he had been offered new roles but would only consider taking one once his 'desire' had returned.

He said: “It’s true that after the Premier League, there aren’t that many leagues that are interesting for you, but that doesn’t mean you don’t want to learn a new language.

“Football has given you a lot and you yourself have tried to give a lot to football, especially in terms of energy.

“When the desire is back, I’m sure that there will be another task that you can imagine. I don’t see that at the moment.”
