West Bromwich Albion FC news: There’s ‘no sign’ Saido Berahino will agree new Baggies contract, Tony Pulis admits

Tony Pulis has revealed he has no idea whether Saido Berahino will sign a new contract with West Brom, as doubts remain over the striker’s future.

The 23-year-old has been cast out of the first-team set-up at the Hawthorns following questions regarding his attitude and fitness, and Pulis has not handed him a competitive appearance since September.

Despite his lack of football he remains an in-demand transfer target for a host of clubs, with Mark Hughes revealing today that Stoke are looking to reopen talks to sign Berahino this month.

However, the youngster was offered fresh terms to extend his contract with the Baggies, in an attempt to keep his talent at the Hawthorns, but Pulis has no idea as to whether a deal is close or not.

"I haven't got a clue what will happen," Pulis said, when quizzed on the contract.

"There's no sign of him signing his contract (that the club have offered him). We're still in limbo. It's not just Stoke - there's other clubs interested as well."

As well as continuing to wait to discover whether Berahino will tie down his future, West Brom have been dealt a second transfer blow in recent days - seeing target Morgan Schneiderlin complete his permanent move to Everton.

The Baggies had been looking to wrap up a move for the Frenchman, and Pulis admits he is disappointed with the midfielder choosing Goodison Park ahead of the Hawthorns.

"We missed out on Schneiderlin which was disappointing but I understand why," he continued.

"We're trying to get a level of player that will improve us.

"He's gone to a club that have finished in the top seven for the last few years and play in front of 40,000 each week.

"After Morgan there was still money to go for others as well. We've got people we'd like to bring in, whether we can is another matter.

"It's a small pool we're fishing from. I don't want to get into a situation where there's a lot of players here and you don't know how good they are."
