‘It’s about recognising that it’s the beginning of the end’ – Ian Wright believes Sergio Aguero should accept his Manchester City days are numbered

Ian Wright believes Sergio Aguero needs to realise his days at Manchester City are numbered following the arrival of Gabriel Jesus.
Jesus has enjoyed a dream start to his career under Pep Guardiola and has been preferred as City’s central striker in wins over Crystal Palace and West Ham in the last week.
Aguero’s contract expires at the end of the 2018/19 season and revealed last year that he expects to return to Argentina.
And Wright has questioned whether Aguero would be willing to play a lesser role in the future.
Speaking to the Sun Football Podcast, he said: “Why would you be happy to be on the bench when you’ve done what [he’s] done at City, and you’ve got the goal scoring tally that you’ve already got this season?”
Wright faced a similar situation at Arsenal back in 1997 following the arrival of Nicolas Anelka and knew his time at the north London club was coming to an end.
“When Anelka came, I genuinely thought: ‘this is a matter of time.’ Wenger was getting me fit so that I could still kick on when I left.
“You realise and you watch and say: ‘hmmm, it’s not going to be long now - I [don’t] have long here.’ And I was right.
“It’s just about recognising that it’s the beginning of the end.”
