Manchester United’s vote of confidence in manager Erik ten Hag will lead to him being sacked by Christmas.

That's the view of talkSPORT’s Jamie O’Hara, who remains unconvinced that the Dutchman will be at the club in the long-term.

Manchester United confirmed on Monday that Ten Hag would continue in his role and enter discussions over a new deal following a drawn out internal review into the team’s performance during the 2022/23 season.

The Red Devils suffered their lowest finish in the Premier League season, finishing eighth with 60 points and a negative goal difference.

United salvaged their dire season against all the odds, beating Premier League champions Manchester City in the FA Cup final last month.

Minority shareholder Sir Jim Ratcliffe held talks with ex-Chelsea boss Thomas Tuchel last week while Mauricio Pochettino was also reportedly in the frame, however neither appeared destined for the Old Trafford hotseat.

Ten Hag once again appears to be flavour of the month at the Theatre of Dreams, but ex-Tottenham midfielder O’Hara doesn’t expect it to last for much longer.

“We’ll see what happens,” he said on The Sports Bar on Wednesday night.

“Hopefully [Man United] will be better than last season, but I think Ten Hag will get the sack before Christmas.

“I just think there wasn’t a manager out there that fitted the bill for Jim Ratcliffe.”

O’Hara’s comments were echoed by his talkSPORT colleague Simon Jordan, who himself remains unconvinced by United’s apparent newfound backing for Ten Hag.

“The fact they went back to Ten Hag could be because they couldn’t find something better or maybe they are waiting for somebody,” he said on White & Jordan on Thursday.

“So they sit upon Ten Hag and say, ‘I'll tell you what, we'll give you another spin of the wheel’.

“Here’s my prediction: I don’t think Ten Hag will survive the season.

"I think Man United will continue in the same direction, continue with the same frailties and the same challenges.

“He will continue to trot out the same tripe and then we’ll find ourselves in a position in six months time when Ten Hag may find himself in a situation where the mere benefit of staying on was that he gets a bigger pay off.”
