England 1-1 Denmark LIVE REACTION: Three Lions held to draw by Danes and miss out on chance to secure top spot in Group C after two games

England were unable to book their place in the last 16 of Euro 2024 on Thursday after being held to a 1-1 draw by Denmark.
The Three Lions took the lead early on through Harry Kane’s sweeping finish, however, they failed to build on that goal.
And the Danes equalised thanks to a stunning long-range strike from Morten Hjulmand, with that effort boosting their confidence.
Gareth Southgate’s side then came under a lot of pressure until half time but they made it with the scores level.
In the second half, Phil Foden hit the post as England looked for a winner that never came and they were forced to settle for a point.
Their fate remains up in the air now, with a positive result needed in their final game against Slovenia to secure a place in the knockout stages.
You can recap the action in our live blog below...
Record breaker
No matter what happens today, Jordan Pickford now holds a new England record.
This will be his 21st appearance for England at a major international tournament.
This surpasses Peter Shilton's record of 20.
Group C
Slovenia and Serbia have just drawn 1-1 in this group's other game, which has opened the way for England not only qualify for the next round, but they can also seal top spot.
A win here for the Three Lions would mean no other side in the group could catch them.
A draw would all but seal top spot; however, a Slovenia winning in the last game would see them take top spot over England.
Foden flopped
Phil Foden gets another chance in England's starting XI this evening despite really struggling against Serbia.
The Manchester City star looked a bit lost on the left all game and kept drifting inside, but he failed to create anything.
There were even calls for him to be dropped due to the fact it seems hard to fit him into the team, and Anthony Gordon had a great year.
However, he gets another chance, so let us hope he can improve on these stats.
England vs Denmark: Pre-match facts
- This will be the fourth encounter between Denmark and England at a major tournament, across the UEFA EURO (3) and FIFA World Cup (1). Denmark have so far won none of the previous three meetings (D1 L2), scoring only one goal in the process, Mikkel Damsgaard’s free-kick in the semi-final of EURO 2020.
- There have only been five goals scored in the last four meetings between Denmark (2) and England (3) in all competitions.
- Denmark have won just one of their last six group stage games at the UEFA European Championship (D1 L4), beating Russia 4-1 in EURO 2020 to ensure qualification to the round of 16.

Roof closed
To be honest, I have no idea what difference this will make to the game, but UEFA have decided to keep the roof on the Deutsche Bank Park closed for this game.
It was shut as a precautionary measure last night due to a bad weather forecast.
And with the game less than 24 hours later, they've decided to keep it closed, partly because it's so much of a hassle to open again!
It could have an impact on the ball, but it should defintely crank up the decibels.
Don't underestimate us!
It would be quite easy to forget that England played Denmark in the Euro 2020 semi-finals.
Since then, Denmark haven't quite hit those heights, and they are considered underdogs in this one.
However, they still have some great players, including Christian Eriksen, Joachim Andersen and Rasmus Hojlund.
Therefore, it would be unwise to for England to not approach this game professional and Peter Schmeichel believes it wouldn't be a shock if Denmark win.
Dyer in attendance
Jarrod Bowen's long-term girlfriend and daughter of Danny Dyer, Dani is in attendance this evening.
She will hope that the West Ham man makes another positive impact off the bench.
Bowen came on in the second half against Serbia and immediately created a great chance for Harry Kane, who hit the crossbar.
The winger also ran himself into the ground to ensure the Three Lions claimed three points.

We should have the starting XIs very soon, but England are expected to be unchanged from the side that beat Serbia.
The Three Lions have no new injury concerns and were always going to be without Luke Shaw for this match, meaning Kieran Trippier stays at left-back.
The only two other positions that were in doubt were Trent Alexander-Arnold and Phil Foden, with Conor Gallagher and Anthony Gordon sniffing around.
But Gareth Southgate is expected to name an unchanged starting XI.
Here we go!
