Scotland crash out of Euro 2024 as Hungary clinch winning goal in final seconds

Scotland have crashed out of Euro 2024 after a dramatic winner from Hungary in the tenth minute of stoppage time.
Steve Clarke's men needed a victory to stand any chance of reaching the latter stages of the tournament after a heavy loss to Germany on the opening day of Euro 2024 and a draw in their second match to Germany.
However, a shot-shy Scotland failed to test Peter Gulacsi at the MHPArena and did not manage a single shot on target throughout the contest with Kevin Csoboth scoring Hungary's winner deep into stoppage time.
In fact, they did not even have a shot at all in the first half and managed just two in total, including Scotland's golden chance as Grant Hanley fired at Gulacsi from close range but the goalkeeper pawed the effort away late into the contest.
And after losing the ball in the Hungarian box from a Scottish corner, they launched a devastating counter-attack led by Liverpool's Dominik Szoboszlai, who picked out Kevin Csoboth to hit Scotland with a massive sucker punch winner in the 100th minute.
It leaves Scotland bottom of the group with one point as Hungary still stand a chance of qualifying with three points, which could see them go through as one of the best four teams to finish third.
Germany, meanwhile, topped the group after a late draw against Switzerland, who finished second.
The match in Stuttgart was somewhat overshadowed by a worrying head injury suffered by Barnabas Varga in the second half.
Hungary players immediately surrounded Varga, who looked out cold before he hit the floor after a collision from a free-kick.
The striker had to be helped onto a stretcher while a shield went up around the player as he received treatment.
Several of his teammates, including Szoboszlai, looked stricken by the incident.
There was also a late penalty appeal for Scotland after Stuart Armstrong latched onto a Scott McTominay pass.
After a tangle of legs with Willi Orban, the referee shook his finger at the Scotsman to indicate that there was no decision to be made.
The winner was scored in the tenth minute of stoppage time with Kevin Csoboth firing in from close range, which sees Hungary move up to third in Group A.
And the wait goes on for Scotland, who have never reached the knockout stage of an international competition from the group stage, their 12th attempt.
It also continues their poor record in international tournaments, their last win coming 28 years ago when Ally McCoist scored the only goal in against Switzerland at Euro 96.
The Scottish fans have been a delight in Germany, bringing the vociferous support along with them throughout the tournament.
