Dele Alli ‘must learn to control aggression’ after horror red card against Gent, says former Tottenham manager Harry Redknapp

Former Tottenham manager Harry Redknapp has warned Dele Alli he MUST learn to control his aggression after the Spurs star’s ‘horrendous tackle’ which saw him sent off in Thursday’s Europa League defeat to Gent.
Spurs crashed out of Europe after another disappointing result at Wembley Stadium, as a 2-2 draw saw the Belgian side progress 3-2 on aggregate.
But the night might have ended sweeter had Alli kept his cool in the first-half, with his sending off effectively writing off ten-man Spurs’ chances.
The England international was brandished the first red card of his career for a horrible knee-high challenge on Gent’s Brecht Dejaegere.
And Redknapp told talkSPORT he was lucky not to have seriously injured the player.
Speaking to the Alan Brazil Sports Breakfast, Redknapp said: “He can’t be doing that. He was lucky not to break the boy’s leg. It was a leg-breaker.
“How the other lad didn’t get a very serious injury, I don’t know. It was a horrendous tackle.
“Dele’s only a kid, he’s just 20-years-old, but he’s such a talent. I’m his biggest fan, I think he’s a fantastic footballer. I love him.
“But he’s got that streak in him. At times you think - ‘fantastic, he looks after himself and he puts himself about which is good’ - but that was going too far with that tackle last night.
“He’s got to learn. He reacted, he didn’t get a decision he thought he should have got and suddenly he just steamed straight in, his head’s gone within a second.
“He’s got to learn how to control that, which I’m sure he will. Hopefully he’ll find a balance between playing on the edge and being over aggressive.”
