The first Yorkshire derby of the season will take place this Friday as Sheffield Wednesday host Leeds, live on talkSPORT 2.

Danny Rohl’s side kicked off their campaign with a great win over Plymouth, but they were heavily beaten by Sunderland in their second outing.

The Owls lost 4-0 at the Stadium of Light and they were lucky it wasn’t more, leaving questions over whether they are good enough to compete in the top half.

They now face a perfect fixture to test that as they take on Leeds who will be aiming to right the wrongs of last campaign and secure a place back in the Premier League.

However, that goal gets tougher by the day for manager Daniel Farke who continues to lose his best players in the transfer window.

Sheffield Wednesday vs Leeds: I predict an exodus

Leeds fans were predicting a riot last season but they missed out on promotion and now their biggest stars are making moves away.

Archie Gray was the first major departure as he made a £30million move to Tottenham.

Then it was Crysencio Summerville who signed for West Ham and made his Premier League return with the Hammers last weekend.

Things went quiet for a few days but then Brighton made their interest in Georginio Rutter known, and the Seagulls activated a release clause.

Rutter then arrived on the South Coast earlier this week and Glen Kamara leaving too has left Leeds without four of their best players last season.

Farke now has a very tough job of replicating their results in the previous campaign and will desperately want to bring some new faces in.

Sheffield Wednesday vs Leeds: Team news

Sheffield Wednesday don’t have any fresh injury issues for this game.

But they are likely to still be missing summer signing Nathaniel Chalobah who picked up a problem during pre-season.

Ike Ugbo is now fully fit and could feature while Anthony Musaba and Djeidi Gassama are sure to keep their places on the wing after impressive starts.

As for Leeds, they have Maximilian Wober carrying a slight calf knock.

Their squad is very small after their departures but they can still field a strong front line with Dan James, Brenden Aaronson and Wilfried Gnonto set to start.

Sheffield Wednesday vs Leeds: What has been said?

Leeds boss Farke has answered questions on whether he is surprised to be in this position with the club having to sell a lot of key players.

He said: “If you ask me a year ago, yes. But we have to stick to the rules.

“Our hands were tied with exit clauses and we have been working for weeks to find good and suitable solutions.

“As a manager, you want the signings sooner rather than later, but I can't go with my own wallet to sign these players.

“I'm used to working with limited resources, I'm not crying about this. Hopefully next week we can speak about some business.

“I know we need a few additions to be competitive, but we try with the boys we have in the next games to be as competitive as possible.”
