A clip of Wayne Rooney joining in with Plymouth training has gone viral.

And you guessed it… the Man United and England legend still has it.

Rooney joined The Pilgrims as manager this summer, but didn’t get off to the best of starts in the Championship.

His team were hammered 4-0 on the opening day, but went on to beat Cheltenham in the Carabao Cup before earning a draw against Hull.

The Plymouth players might just be picking up a few things from Rooney in training, who scored 364 goals for club and country across his illustrious career.

The 38-year-old took part in an open training session at Plymouth on Tuesday and was seen playing some delightful passes, showing how he still has an incredible first touch and vision. Class is permanent after all.

Rooney probably did not get too involved in things as he has had bad experiences in the past.

Back when he was Derby manager in 2021, he accidentally injured Jason Knight in training causing him to be out for three months.

Speaking about this incident on The Overlap, he said: “I had to pull someone out of the 11 vs 11 so I joined in. As the ball was coming, me and Knighty [Jason Knight] were going in for a tackle and I put him out.

“It was just a block tackle, but he did his ankle and was out for eight weeks.”

Next up for Plymouth is a clash with QPR in the Championship and Rooney has been encouraged from how his team bounced back from their opening day defeat.

Speaking after the Hull draw, he said: “I thought the lads gave everything today, that was the most pleasing thing.

“After last week, I think they showed the commitment and energy - they wanted to win.

“We tried to win the game, created by far the better chances, and unfortunately it wasn't to be.

"We’ll do a bit more work on the training pitch, with our finishing, trying to improve that."
