Jude Bellingham faces a month on the sidelines with Real Madrid confirming the midfielder has picked up an injury.

The news will come as a huge blow to interim England boss Lee Carsley ahead of the Three Lions' upcoming UEFA Nations League matches.

Carsley was named as Gareth Southgate's temporary successor earlier this month following England's Euro 2024 final defeat - where Bellingham started.

But Bellingham will now miss the clashes against Ireland and Finland on September 7 and 10 respectively.

Los Blancos issued a on the youngster's fitness on Friday afternoon.

It read: "Following tests carried out today on our player Jude Bellingham by the Real Madrid Medical Services, he has been diagnosed with an injury to the plantar thin muscle of his right leg. Pending evolution."

It is believed that Real hope to have him back by the end of September.

Boss Carlo Ancelotti discussed Bellingham's injury in his pre-match press conference ahead of Madrid's clash against Real Valladolid.

He simply said: "He has had a knock and they are assessing him."

Later on Friday, Bellingham posted on social media: "Nothing I hate more than missing games but trying to see the positive side and maybe my body is telling me it needs a bit more rest after a busy year.

"I'm very frustrated but I'll be supporting the lads like a fan until I can rejoin them again in my best and strongest form. Thanks for your messages of concern and support. Lots of love and Hala Madrid!"

Bellingham returned to action last week where he scooped silverware in the UEFA Super Cup.

He supplied the assist for Kylian Mbappe's first Real goal in the 2-0 victory over Atalanta in Warsaw.

The ex-Birmingham starlet put in a man of the match performance against the Italian outfit.

However he couldn't repeat his heroics in Real's clash away at Mallorca as Ancelotti's men began their LaLiga title defence with a disappointing draw.

In total, Bellingham could now miss as many as seven matches for Madrid.

As well as missing Sunday's home encounter with Valladolid, he will also be absent for the matches against Las Palmas and Real Betis before the international break.

After England's encounters in the Nations League, Bellingham then stands to be out of the LaLiga fixtures against Real Sociedad, Espanyol and Alaves.

In the middle of those matches, Real are also set to play their first Champions League group stage game of the revamped tournament, which will take place between September 17-19.

And Ancelotti will be desperate to have Bellingham back for their clash with rivals Atletico Madrid on September 29.
