Tranmere name Micky Adams as new manager

Tranmere Rovers have named Micky Adams as their new manager just three days after sacking Rob Edwards.

The former Port Vale boss will take charge of the side after this Saturday's match at Oxford and will be tasked with helping Rovers recover from their poor start to life in League Two.

Chairman Mark Palios said: “In the position the club currently finds itself we felt it was important to appoint an experienced manager with good connections and a track record of success in League Two.

"In our present position at the bottom of the League, we don’t have the luxury of the time to allow a new manager to learn his trade.

“Micky has an impressive win ratio, which he has sustained over a long career and often in circumstances where he has had to operate in difficult situations or with limited budgets.  His success is no flash in the pan.

“We have acted quickly to fill the post so he has as much time as possible to lift us up the table and to identify his targets to strengthen the squad in the transfer window.”

Adams, who will now manage the 11th club in his career, said: “I’m delighted to be given the opportunity to manage Tranmere Rovers by the Chairman and Board of Directors.

“The immediate task is to get the Club off the foot of the table. There’s a lot of hard work ahead but it’s a challenge I’m relishing

“Tranmere is a good club with a proud history and one which shouldn’t be near the bottom of the division. In the weeks and months ahead I’ll be doing everything I can to drive the club forward and to a much healthier position.”

Adams' first game in the dugout is set to be Tuesday's home game against Mansfield.

Palios added: “The extensive work we are undertaking behind the scenes at Tranmere Rovers to provide the Club with a bright future is predicated on us retaining our Football League status.

“That is foremost in our minds, and Micky’s appointment is designed to ensure we can continue with our long-term strategy that would ultimately make Tranmere Rovers a successful self-sustainable Football Club.

“The Tranmere fans have been fantastic in supporting the team in recent League games, despite some disappointing results, and this has kept the team fighting to the end of the 90 minutes.

“We are delighted that someone of the pedigree of Micky Adams has agreed to join us to help steer the Club back up the League, where it belongs
