Liverpool target set to snub Premier League interest and sign new Inter Milan deal

Liverpool target Mauro Icardi is set to snub interest from the Premier League and commit his future to Inter Milan

Liverpool target Mauro Icardi is set to snub interest from the Premier League and commit his future to Inter Milan.

The Argentine international, 21, was linked with a move to Anfield throughout the summer and reportedly came close to joining the Merseysiders, before Brendan Rodgers took a gamble on Mario Balotelli from Inter's city neighbours, AC Milan.

Icardi has made a fast start to the Serie A season, scoring three times in two matches, and again attracted interest from England.

But in an interview with La Gazzetta dello Sport, the former Sampdoria man has confirmed he has no intention to leave Inter now and wants to continue wearing the Nerazzurri shirt - news which will disappoint Liverpool fans.

"On my contract renewal I don't know anything yet. But I chose Inter, and I want to stay here," he said.

"I want to stay because here we have a desire to build something. Because Milan is a great city, because the President [Erik Thohir] has very clear ideas and because… because I want to stay here!

"Three reasons to believe in Inter? One: because I like this squad and the work the club is doing. Two: because there are many young players with a desire to win, because they haven't won anything before. Three: we are a united squad, on and off the field."

Icardi's commitment to stay at the club will have given Inter and the club's fans a boost after a shaky start to the season, with recent back-to-back defeats against Cagliari and Fiorentina, drawing whistles from the crowd aimed at coach Walter Mazzarri.
