Unseen US Open footage of raw Rory McIlroy emotion set to be released

Footage of Rory McIlroy’s infamous US Open locker room fallout will be shown to the public next year in Netflix’s ‘Full Swing’ documentary.
The popular show provides a behind-the-scenes look at players competing in tournaments on the PGA Tour.
McIlroy was set to win his first major since 2014 but a late collapse at Pinehurst last year saw his hopes of victory slip away.
Three bogeys in the last four holes including two short putts, handed the initiative to eventual winner Bryson DeChambeau in an unlikely end to the event.
Further drama followed for McIlroy who made his way to the locker room accompanied by the camera crew who captured all the footage - to be aired on season three of the documentary in 2025.
An angry McIlroy quickly left the course without carrying out his media duties and subsequently announcing he would be taking a break from golf.
It came after a tense moment in the champions’ changing area with McIlroy eager to plot a quick escape route.
The Northern Irishman, accompanied by his team and camera crew, was granted access to the area as reward for his triumph in 2011.
However, USGA CEO Mike Whan intervened after spotting the entourage and asked security officials: "Do we want them in here?"
Whan’s hope was to give McIlroy the space to come to terms with the dramatic loss but felt the camera crew were devoid of any empathy towards the star as they captured the emotion of the moments following his collapse.
Doubts were raised as to whether ‘Full Swing’ would be commissioned for a third series despite plenty of intriguing footage for golf fans.
McIlory may have hoped plans for another season would have been dropped considering the sensitivity and emotion of the US Open defeat.
DeChambeau, who was the beneficiary of McIlroy’s sub-par end to the tournament said at the time that he "never would have wished it on anybody."
A release date is yet to be announced for 'Full Swing' season three.
