However fan favourite Josh Brownhill spared the blushes of Scott Parker's side with a 94th-minute strike to claim all three points.

Watching on at Turf Moor was future NFL Hall Of Famer Watt, who couldn't hide his delight after seeing the goal go in.

Posting on his channels, the former defensive end screamed and pumped his fists in celebration.

He then shouted: "Come on Burnley,"; before ending the video by screaming: "Yeah! Yeah!"

Watt starred for a decade for NFL side Houston Texans before finishing his career with the Arizona Cardinals in 2022.

Clearly missing the world of professional sport, Watt opted for a different venture after becoming a minority shareholder of the Clarets, alongside wife and former US soccer star, Kealia Watt.

While only taking on a small role at the club in terms of financial investment, it's clear that Watt is wholeheartedly on board when it comes to the emotional investment.

"There's not a single day in our household that Burnley is not spoken about, emailed about, called about," JJ told ESPN in August last year.

"What we can do is show that we do care.

"Show that we do want to learn about it, and show that when we are speaking about Burnley to the rest of the world, we're speaking what they would want the world to know, not what we think they would want the world to know."

Burnley's victory means that they've now won four of their six games so far, leaving them in third position in the Championship table.

Burnley co-owner and former NFL star JJ Watt says the Clarets 'need to play better' and are a 'small club'

With hopes of securing automatic promotion back to the Premier League, they'll be keen to keep that winning feeling as the season moves into the autumn period.

Next up for Burnley is a trip to face newly-promoted Oxford United on Saturday, September 28.
