‘This is crazy’ – Bayern Munich players can’t get past brick wall as Vincent Kompany joins training

Vincent Kompany may have retired from football in August 2020, but a viral clip shows the Bayern boss has still got it.
In a training session, Bayern worked on a drill where the ball would be fizzed along the ground into the box from the left wing.
Kompany, a world-class centre-back during his playing days, stepped in as the defender for the drill.
Bayern's players may have wished Kompany remained on the sideline with a stopwatch and whistle in hand as he made two perfect interventions.
The first was a lovely sliding challenge where Kompany sticks his right leg out and diverts the ball out for what would be a corner.
Such was his delight at his defensive work, Kompany celebrated with a fist pump as he strolls back to his mark.
In the second, the ball beats the first Bayern player but looks perfectly set up for Jamal Musiala to slam home.
However, Kompany somehow gets his toe onto the ball and pokes it out of play.
He then springs to his feet and puts his shoulders back as Joshua Kimmich yells: "This is crazy!"
The clip of Kompany showcasing his defensive class comes hot on the heels of another training video uploaded by Bayern's socials where the manager shows off his footwork in a rondo.
Kompany receives the ball from Thomas Muller and is immediately put under pressure by Konrad Laimer.
However, Kompany, facing away from Laimer, spins him around and lays the ball off with the outside of his right boot.
Granted, Bayern have not needed any help at centre-back this season with Dayot Upamecano and Min-Jae Kim starting all six of the Bavarians' games this season.
But if Bayern somehow end up with a defensive crisis, Kompany could easily lace up the boots for one last dance.
However, his time may be better spent in the Bayern dugout given the success they have enjoyed so far this season.
Anderlecht (August 2020 - June 2022): P92, W42, D32, L18 (45.65% win rate)
Burnley (June 2022 - May 2024): P96, W41, D24, L31 (42.71% win rate)
Bayern Munich (May 2024 - present): P6, W6 (100% win rate)
Under Kompany, who took over from Thomas Tuchel in the summer, Bayern are yet to lose a game in all competitions.
In fact, they have scored a whopping 29 goals from six competitive games and have conceded just five.
Nine of those came in a 9-2 demolition of Croatian side Dinamo Zagreb in their first Champions League matchday.
It is an impressive start to life in Germany for Kompany, especially since he was not Bayern's first choice and suffered his first relegation as a manager when he could not keep Burnley in the Premier League last season.
