PSV Eindhoven reveal failed bid for Manchester United and Tottenham transfer target

PSV Eindhoven rejected a summer bid for Manchester United and Tottenham target Memphis Depay, the club have confirmed.

Toon Gerbrands, the Dutch outfit's general manager, announced the news yesterday at the presentation of the club's annual results, although he would not disclose who made the bid.

Both Manchester United and Tottenham were linked with Depay during last summer's transfer window.

The 20-year-old shot to fame after scoring two goals in the Netherlands' run to the semi-finals of the World Cup and was named on the three-man shortlist for the Best Young Player of the tournament, losing out to eventual winner Paul Pogba.

Gerbrands also confirmed yesterday that the bid rejected by PSV in the summer was in the region of £16m.

The Dutch club are said to be unwilling to part with their prized asset, despite Premier League clubs continually expressing an interest in the winger.
