LISTEN: Chris Hughton joins talkSPORT to talk Brighton's promotion from the Championship and Premier League preparations

Brighton’s promotion to the Premier League was confirmed on Easter Monday, as they defeated Wigan 2-1 at the Amex Stadium

Their rise to the top flight was confirmed just before 19:00, as Derby’s late goal against Huddersfield ensured that game ended 1-1. The Terriers had to match Brighton’s result to keep the race open for at least one further matchday.

There was a celebratory atmosphere at the Amex following the win, with a pitch invasion after the final whistle had gone, and the man who has guided the south coast club to the Premier League joined talkSPORT to discuss the promotion.

Chris Hughton has worked wonders since taking charge of the Seagulls midway through the 2014/15 season, and he spoke to Jason Cundy and Danny Gabbidon on the Full Time Phone In, discussing Brighton’s campaign, the fight for the Championship title, and preparations for the Premier League.

On the latter subject, Hughton said: “It [preparations] has already started, and that’s only because you get to a stage in a season where you have to organise, even with regards to things like pre-season.

“You have to try and think about all eventualities, and we have a recruitment department - who are very good and have fared us very well in my time here - that would have had to work on either eventuality.

“That doesn’t necessarily mean you can get the players you want, because that’s the hardest bit. But certainly they will have worked very hard for us to do that.”
