Chelsea striker set for Atletico Madrid return?

Atletico Madrid are lining up an audacious bid to bring Chelsea striker Fernando Torres back to the club, according to reports in Spain.

Torres is currently six months into a two-year loan at AC Milan, but the La Liga champions are hoping that a cash offer to Chelsea could see the former captain rejoin his boyhood club.

The Spain international came through the club’s academy, eventually going on to skipper the La Liga side at just 19 years of age.

And, according to AS, Atletico are working on bringing the 30-year-old back to his boyhood club during the January transfer window.

Manager Diego Simeone is reportedly keen to take the burden off main striker Mario Mandzukic, who has already appeared 21 appearances this season.

Arsenal attacker Lukas Podolski is said to be another target of Simeone's, while Bayern Munich's Xherdan Shaqiri is deemed as another alternative.
