Liverpool transfer blow? Wolfsburg enter race to sign Bayern Munich flyer

Liverpool face competition from Wolfsburg in the battle to sign Swiss star Xherdan Shaqiri next month.

The Bayern Munich forward is expected to be allowed to leave the Germans giants when the transfer window reopens, having found first team opportunities hard to come by in Bavaria.

The 23-year-old was linked with an Anfield switch in the summer following an impressive World Cup campaign, and remains high on Brendan Rodgers’ January wish list.

Liverpool might have to offer a quick outright deal in order to seal the transfer, though, with Bayern’s rival German club Wolfsburg also keen.

It is understood Die Wolfe will look to table a loan deal with a view to a permanent move, which could give the Reds the edge in the chase, with Bayern looking to recoup as much of the €12m they paid Basel for Shaqiri’s services back in 2012.
