Louis van Gaal’s decision to omit striker Radamel Falcao from Man United’s 1-0 defeat to Southampton has set tongues wagging over the Colombian’s future at the club.

Falcao joined the Red Devils in a transfer deadline day move back in the summer, United paying an initial £5m loan fee to Monaco with the option to permanently keep the player at the end of the season for an additional £45m.

While it was thought that United would take up that opportunity, it has now been thrown into doubt.
