Exclusive – Falcao’s Man United career is over, claims former Red Devils star

Ray Wilkins believes Manchester United will reject the option to sign Radamel Falcao this summer – because he looks a shadow of the player he once was

Ray Wilkins believes Manchester United will reject the option to sign Radamel Falcao this summer - because he looks a shadow of the player he once was.

The Colombian striker is currently on a season-long loan at Old Trafford, with the Red Devils required to pay Monaco £43million if they want the 29-year-old’s services permanently.

Falcao has cut a forlorn figure during his spell at the Premier League side, and has scored just four goals in 20 appearances for Louis van Gaal’s side.

The Dutchman refused to turn to the forward during the last-minute victory over Newcastle on Wednesday night, and former United midfielder Wilkins insists the ex-Atletico Madrid man’s time at the club is coming to an end.

“Falcao has been struggling for goals,” he told the Alan Brazil Sports Breakfast show. “He hasn’t shown any type of form that we expected when he arrived at Manchester United.

“His form has been very poor in fact, we haven’t seen anything like the player who destroyed Chelsea with Atletico Madrid a few years ago.

“They have already paid a huge loan fee and his wages are extremely expensive. To take him on would require a big fee, I would think they will look elsewhere.”
