Steve Davis appointed Leyton Orient head coach on two-year contract

Leyton Orient have appointed former Crewe boss Steve Davis as the club's new head coach.

Davis, 51, has signed a two-year contract with the Os, who were relegated to the National League at the end of last season.

"The club is delighted to announce the appointment of Steve Davis as head coach," the Os said on their official website.

"Davis has penned a two-year contract at the Matchroom Stadium and will work with assistant coach Ross Embleton as the first team continue to prepare for the 2017-18 season."

Davis was the fourth longest serving manager in the top four divisions when he was sacked by Crewe in January.

He began his managerial career at Northwich Victoria and moved on to Nantwich Town before joining Crewe as assistant boss in May 2009.

Crewe made him manager in November 2011 and he was in charge for a total of 272 games at Gresty Road.

Orient's 112-year stay in the Football League came to an end when they finished bottom of Sky Bet League Two last season.

Previous owner Francesco Becchetti sold the club in June to a consortium headed by Nigel Travis, a lifelong fan and chief executive of the Dunkin' Brands Group.
