Oxford United 3-2 Swansea City: Premier League strugglers crash out of the FA Cup to bottom tier side

FA Cup third round

League Two club Oxford United brought back the glory days with a 3-2 win over Premier League Swansea City in the FA Cup third round.

It is 30 years since Oxford's finest hour, when they won the Football League Cup as a top flight team in 1986, but this victory over the Swans will rank highly in the club's history, particularly considering that a decade ago the Us were sliding into non-league football.

Kemar Roofe scored two second half goals for the home side, after a Liam Sercombe penalty had levelled matters following a 23rd minute Jefferson Montero opener for Swansea.

Bafetimbi Gomis pulled one back for the visitors after 66 minutes, but the Premier League club - who rested several players as they fight for survival in the top flight - deservedly crashed out against a team currently sat third in League Two.

It was a day that rekindled memories of Oxford's glory years in the 1980s, and Swansea are themselves are in danger of already looking back at their own, 2013 League Cup victory as the good old days.
