'Javier Hernandez could be the best player West Ham have EVER signed', co-chairman David Sullivan tells talkSPORT

West Ham co-chairman David Sullivan has told talkSPORT he believes new striker Javier Hernandez could be one of the best players to have ever signed for the club.

The Hammers confirmed the £16million arrival of the Mexican ace from Bayer Leverkusen on Monday.

Former Manchester United and Real Madrid hitman Hernandez has penned a three-year contract at the London Stadium, and his arrival is a huge boost for a club who has struggled to sign a proven goalscorer over the last decade.

And Sullivan believes he is not only one of the deals of the summer, but one of the best signings in West Ham's history.

"I think he is potentially the best player who has ever come to the club," the Hammers chief told talkSPORT host Jim White.

"In recent years, he is probably the best proven goalscorer we have signed since we have been at the club.

"He's done it in the Premier League with Manchester United. We were lucky he only had a year left on his contract with his club and that allows you to negotiate a deal.

"We tried very hard to get him two years ago but unfortunately he chose the German club ahead of us."
