Premier League round-up: Leicester stun West Brom and Bolasie scores a hat-trick

Yannick Bolasie scored a hat-trick

Sunderland’s Stadium of Light and West Brom’s Hawthorns saw the most excitement in another afternoon of Premier League football.

Yannick Bolasie helped Crystal Palace to a 4-1 win over the Black Cats, scoring a ten-minute hat-trick to add to Sunderland’s miserable season. Glenn Murray scored the other, while Connor Wickham struck a consolation goal for the Black Cats.

In the Midlands, Leicester stunned West Brom, who wore their 1968 FA Cup final replica shirts to honour former striker Jeff Astle, who died aged 59 in 2002. However, Jamie Vardy rescued three points in the dying moments as the Foxes came from behind to win.

Darren Fletcher gave the Baggies the perfect start and Craig Gardner restored the lead after David Nugent’s leveller. Then Robert Huth pulled one back and Vardy sent the visitors wild at the end to clinch a 3-2 win. Leicester stay bottom but are now three points from safety.

At St Mary’s, James Ward-Prowse, on at half-time, stepped up and put Southampton ahead from the penalty spot and then striker Graziano Pelle scored his first league goal since December in a 2-0 win against Hull.

It was a happy return to White Hart Lane for Tim Sherwood as Aston Villa picked up a vital three points in a 1-0 win to move clear of the drop zone.

Tottenham started well, but could not find a way through and so it was Villa who went ahead against the run of play. In-form Christian Benteke headed in the only goal of the game and just before half-time Gabriel Agbonlahor’s shot from 18 yards cannoned off the post.

Villa could have been out of sight when Fabian Delph was through on goal, but Vorm denied the midfielder.

Stoke pushed West Ham all the way at Upton Park and were rewarded when Marko Arnautovic equalised in the final minute of the game to earn a 1-1 draw.

The Hammers started brightly and were ahead after ten minutes when Aaron Cresswell’s free-kick flew into the top corner giving Asmir Begovic no chance.
