Chairman Fernandes ‘100 per cent committed to QPR’s long term future,’ despite relegation

QPR chairman Tony Fernandes has moved to reassure fans about the club’s future, after a dismal 6-0 defeat at Manchester City confirmed their second Premier League relegation in three years.
Rangers were in need of a win against last season’s champions to keep their slim survival chances alive, but instead they were totally outclassed by Manuel Pellegrini’s side as the top flight’s top scorer Sergio Aguero led the way with a hat-trick.
The immediate future looks bleak for the London side, who are still yet to clarify Chris Ramsey’s position as manager and are surely now preparing for a mass squad overhaul to get a number of high earners off their books.
There is still confusion over the club’s drop back into the second tier, with Rangers set to pay a hefty fine, expected to be around £30million-plus, as a result of breaching Football League financial fair play rules.
However, Fernandes insists he and the club’s other chiefs are well aware of the financial blows relegation brings, and insists the ‘building blocks' are in place to move things in the right direction.
Fernandes told the club's website, www.qpr.co.uk: "Obviously we're all very disappointed that our fate has been sealed, but I don't want to dwell on it. I want to focus on the future.
"We are aware of the financial implications of relegation and as a group of shareholders we remain 100 per cent committed in the short, medium and long term.
"We have an opportunity to rebuild again and put in place the foundations to deliver long-term success and stability at QPR.
"I can reassure all Rangers supporters that the building blocks are in place to move things in the right direction for the future."
