Marseille join Newcastle and Southampton in race for Ligue 1 star

Marseille have joined Newcastle and Southampton in the race for Caen star Ngolo Kante.

talkSPORT told you back in April about Premier League clubs' interest in the midfielder, who has performed well in Ligue 1 this season.

Caen are keen to hold onto the 24-year-old but it is thought that a bid of around £5m could tempt them into selling.

Newcastle and Southampton have made tentative enquires, while Arsenal have also reportedly scouted the Frenchman.

But, according to RMC, Marseille have opened negotiations with Caen over the signing of Kante.

After setting the pace early this season, Marcelo Bielsa's side have missed out on the Ligue 1 title this year and are determined to strengthen in the summer.
