Transfer news: Tottenham complete signing of goalkeeper Paulo Gazzaniga from Southampton

Tottenham have signed goalkeeper Paulo Gazzaniga from Southampton.

The 25-year-old has joined for an undisclosed fee and has penned a five-year contract with Mauricio Pochettino's side.

Gazzaniga made 23 appearances in his five-year spell with the Saints, having joined from Gillingham in 2012.

The Argentine, who spent last season on loan at Rayo Vallecano, will provide extra competition for Hugo Lloris and Michel Vorm at Tottenham.

He told the north London club's official website: "I feel amazing and am so happy to start training with the boys.

"This is an amazing club and the facilities are unbelievable."

Gazzaniga follows Ajax defender Davinson Sanchez, who has joined for a reported club-record £42million fee, into the squad as Tottenham boss Mauricio Pochettino looks to rebuild following the summer sale of England full-back Kyle Walker to Manchester City.

The goalkeeper is looking forward to linking up again with his countryman Pochettino, who had a successful spell in charge at Southampton before taking over at Spurs in May 2014, and coach Toni Jimenez.

"They like to always push you to be your best and compete at the maximum level," Gazzaniga said.

"I like that kind of work because I want to keep improving."

"If you look at the last four or five years, Tottenham is going up, so I think it is the right club to keep improving myself."

Gazzaniga, though, knows he will face a battle to force his way into the first team squad ahead of captain Lloris and Dutchman Vorm.

"I can learn a lot from them, because they are world-class goalies," he said.

"I think Hugo will be a good teacher for me, I like to watch them and try to improve myself and think I am in the right place to do that."
