Simon Jordan tells talkSPORT: Liverpool must achieve something or Jurgen Klopp will come under pressure

Liverpool need to start ‘achieving something of significance’ otherwise manager Jurgen Klopp will come under pressure.

That is according to former Crystal Palace chairman Simon Jordan, speaking to talkSPORT on Monday evening.

The Reds have made a blistering start to the 2017/18 season, winning two of three Premier League matches and powering past Hoffenheim to qualify for the Champions League group stages.

They have reportedly agreed a deal to sign prime target Naby Keita next summer, and are also trying to bring Thomas Lemar to Anfield before the transfer window closes on Thursday.

Everything seems to riding high on Merseyside right now, but that could come crashing down if the Reds endure another season without achieving anything of note.

Silverware continues to elude the Reds as they play their sixth season since winning a trophy - the 2011/12 League Cup - and Jordan believes continuing failures will see the pressure heaped on Klopp.

The former Palace chairman told Kick Off: “If Liverpool don’t achieve something of significance this season, I think Klopp will come under pressure.

“My view about Liverpool is that there is a lot of hype around Klopp. I like Liverpool - they are a team I admired growing up - but over the last 10 or 15 years, Liverpool have been there or thereabouts for a passage of time.

“But I’m now looking at a Liverpool side that is ostensibly being promoted by Klopp’s personality. But I’m not so sure they are that far away from what Brendan Rodgers was achieving with them, and Klopp seems to be getting away with it a bit.

“It’s not necessarily that he’s facing the immediate sack if he doesn’t sign anybody, because he’s tried to sign a centre-back in Virgil van Dijk - and gone about it the wrong way and caused everybody at Southampton’s backs to be up.

“But if Liverpool don’t do something significant this season, I think he’s going to come under pressure.”
