Harry Redknapp: Chelsea star Eden Hazard is the player I most regret missing out on signing

Missing out on signing Eden Hazard while Tottenham manager is Harry Redknapp's biggest transfer deadline day regret.

Redknapp's reputation as one of the final day’s busiest managers came to a peak during his time at White Hart Lane, famed for conducting interviews out of the door of his Range Rover as he left the training ground.

Rafael van der Vaart’s switch from Real Madrid to Spurs came in the final seconds of the window in 2010, and proved to be a huge hit.

But Hazard slipped through his grasp and ending up joining London rivals Chelsea shortly after.

He told the Alan Brazil Sports Breakfast: "There are a few, I remember meeting Hazard and it looked like we might have got him.

"But then you get others who come in at the last minute, like Van der Vaart, fantastic player. He was brilliant for us.

"Some you win, some you lose."

Spurs have had an offer for Swansea striker Fernando Llorente accepted, a surprise deal as the Spaniard had been expected to join Chelsea.

Redknapp said: "He can score goals, but he won't get in the team. Where’s he going to play?

"Spurs have got the best centre forward in the country. If he wants’ to go as cover, good for him."
