Liverpool transfer rumours: How the Reds can line up with big money signings after Sterling deal

Liverpool's Raheem Sterling seems destined for an acrimonious departure from Anfield this summer.
The 20-year-old forward is adamant that he isn't a money grabber, but will do his bank balance no harm if he does complete a move to Manchester City.
Manuel Pellegrini's side lodged a new and improved £40 million offer for Sterling earlier today, but it still might not be enough to get their man.
The Merseysiders could opt to hold out for an even bigger fee, although plenty of their fans will be hopeful that Brendan Rodgers takes the money and scarpers.
But how should the squad be strengthened if the Reds receive a healthy windfall for their prize asset? Which areas of the side are in need of attention?
A more fitting question would be which areas do not need to be reinforced? The answer is none. New additions are required all over the park.
How can the Reds spend their Raheem Sterling money?
Given that it now seems as though Sterling will be sold for a minimum of £40 million, Liverpool are set to receive a healthy transfer pot, once Queens Park Rangers' share of the sum has been divvied up.
Yet, of the hordes of targets that Liverpool have been linked with only one, two, or perhaps three, will arrive.
talkSPORT has assessed how the Merseysiders could line up once they have spent their Raheem Sterling money, below...
1. Roberto Firmino's trickery would help to ease the loss of the spark that Sterling provides in attack while Nathaniel Clyne could ensure the unpopular Glen Johnson is instantly forgotten.
2. Liverpool's defence was shambolic at times last season and the versatile figures of Marc Bartra and Toby Alderweireld would open up a range of options for Rodgers.
3. But what if Liverpool put all of their eggs into one man's basket? Aston Villa's Christian Benteke has a huge release clause, but his signature could be a masterstroke if the Belgian forged a partnership with Daniel Sturridge.
4. Finally, a marquee signing could lift the entire mood at the club. Atletico Madrid's Antoine Griezmann, who has attracted interest from Chelsea, is a superb talent and could be the X factor that Liverpool have lacked since Luis Suarez's departure.
